Why We Had to Pause – The Truth Behind the Burnout

After five years of pushing nonstop to keep Bridge the Gap alive, we’ve had to hit pause. Not because we wanted to , but because we needed to.

Running a grassroots nonprofit without paid staff, without stable funding, and with a neurodivergent CEO living with chronic pain? It’s no small thing. And the reality is, it caught up with us.

For years, we kept showing up. We’ve gone above and beyond what we promised supporting families, running workshops, distributing SIM cards and laptops, troubleshooting, advocating, showing up for those who felt forgotten. We did it out of love. But love alone isn’t enough to keep an organisation going.

Our CEO, the beating heart of this organisation has sacrificed sleep, health, finances, and peace of mind just to keep services running. That’s not heroic. That’s not sustainable.

This pause is about breathing. It’s about recalibrating. And it’s about being honest enough to say: we can’t pour from an empty cup.

We’re still here. Just rebuilding behind the scenes, carefully and intentionally. Thank you to everyone still standing with us.
